There is something rather lovely about a herbaceous border at this time of year. It is full of hope and the promise of good things to come, and today I spotted this pleasing combination:

This Thalictrum is one of my favourite flowers, and tonight it was spectacular with the evening sun shining through it.

Thalictrum aquilegifolium, and Scottish sunshine!

Back in 2012 I blogged this interesting plant, when it produced its first single magnificent flower, and now look at it!

It is ‘Aciphylla glaucescens’ a New Zealand plant, slug, snail, frost and wind-proof it’s only disadvantage that I can see is that the spikey leaves are difficult to weed around. Here is a link to an amazing picture of it in the wild: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kylerosenblad/5702833830/

Today’s view, spotted as I reversed the car into the drive this morning.

Sometimes it is the smallest things that lift your day.
Today the sun shone and I spotted this lovely combination:

For reasons beyond anyone’s control parts of the garden have become a little unkempt of late.
However I ventured out today to catch up on things and was delighted to come upon this little view:

Orange flowered Meconopsis cambrica, with blue leaved hosta to the right and and Kirengeshoma palmata to the left.
It was the self seeded orange poppies in the background that caught my eye – a lovely example of nature doing better than man!

School starts tomorrow, so the blog is likely to be quiet for a while, and I will say goodbye for now with a message for all of us gardening in harsh conditions
